The Full Story

About First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church is a legacy congregation founded in 1858 in Midtown Omaha.  Through the dynamic changes and challenges of the last century and a half, the church remains steadfast to sustain a faithful gospel witness in the heart of the city.

First Baptist is committed to the authority of the Bible and the application of it's timeless truth to our contemporary culture.  We are a gracious congregation where you will find a ready welcome and spiritual home.  Our corporate worship is lively, effectively blending old and new expressions, dynamic preaching, passionate prayer, and inspiring music in a beautiful stained-glass setting.

Though our congregation is modest in size, we offer Sunday school for all ages and our youth group meets during the week.  In 2010, we welcomed a Karen (Burmese refugee) congregation to share our facility.  From time to time, we schedule a combined worship service with them.

As we move deeper into the twenty-first century, First Baptist is committed to re-establishing itself as a neighborhood church and a faithful gospel witness at the corner of Park Avenue and Harney.  Check out our newly refurbished and developing website.  Watch one of our services online, then come and worship with us.  You will be welcomed!

We Know A Man...

Yeah.  We know.  Our front page is a little different.  But it got you here!

It's not hard to see that our world is troubled.  It's not necessary to rehearse all of the political and social problems we have.  They are, however, simply a reflection of the trouble most folks feel inside.  Call it "soul-sickness", malaise, or simply "messed-up".  Everyone has baggage.  the Bible calls it sin.  Going our own way, spinning our wheels to nowhere.  And God hates it because it destroys us.  That's why Jesus came.  He entered into our troubles and offers Himself.  "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will fid rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30.  Together, we're on a journey to know Jesus and have Him redeem our lives for His glorious and

wonderful purpose.

Like the Neighborhood, We are in the Process of Revitalization

Like most churches in the urban core, many of our members moved west several years
ago.  Our vision is to reestablish ourselves as a church serving our neighborhood.
That’s what we’ve been in the past and we are intentionally moving again

in that direction.  We’ve already

started with Moses’ Basket and in
2024, we will partner with Child Evangelism Fellowship to sponsor a Summer Bible Club
in Leavenworth Park. We can’t wait to see where and how God will lead us to serve our neighborhood in the future!
